Let’s Start at the very Beginning

 “In the beginning Elohim/Alahim created the heavens and the earth.” But did He create in six literal days or millions of years? This is more than a factual question. The answer determines our ability to think objectively, rationally, and concretely. In short if our brains are really working or not.

The funny thing is, if someone proposed to use the plainest language possible with no ambiguity, it could not have been said better than as in Genesis 1. The author could not have produced more comprehensive and all-inclusive ways to express the idea of a literal “day” than the ones that are chosen, said Gerhard F. Hasel. Every word in the text breaths its common sense meaning.

We must concede that nowhere in Genesis 1 is the millions of years implied or inferable. The idea of deep time is extra-biblical. Any attempt to read deep time into the Genesis account is completely bogus. It’s just not there despite many attempts to show the contrary. As captivating as it is to so many minds, deep time is pseudo science. It cannot stand on its own merit and is unequivocally contradicted by the biblical wording.

I read Dr Hasel’s paper some thirty years ago and it’s still the best ever for me. Professor Hasel was at the top of his field academically, and the language of the paper reflects it. It’s not easy going and will require serious intent to read. Please don’t be dismayed and not try. Sadly, Dr Hasel died in a car accident the day before he was to deliver his paper in public: The “Days” of Creation in Genesis 1: Literal “Days” or Figurative “Periods/Epochs” of Time? I’ve posted the paper here. Remember, “Study to show thyself approved.”

Still, I’ll make it easier for you. I really like Ken Ham’s, Six Days: The Age of the Earth and the Decline of the Church. Ken Ham, founder of the Answers in Genesis ministry, has made many videos. But this video is his best in my opinion. You’ll enjoy it.

My son, if you receive my words
and treasure my commands,
Turning your ear to wisdom,
inclining your heart to understanding;
Yes, if you call for intelligence,
and to understanding raise your voice;
If you seek her like silver,
and like hidden treasures search her out,
Then will you understand the fear of the Yahuah;
the knowledge of Elohim you will find;

Abraham Rempel says, “Thanks for reading my blog.”
